Westside

Identified as the region that is bounded on the south by Highway 17, on the north by Congress Street, on the east by I-26 and on the west by Lockwood Avenue, the residential community of Westside is known for its diversity. Not only is the area diverse in terms of its residents, but also it is also quite varied in terms of the homes that are available. New constructions, custom homes, recent renovations, fixer uppers, and condos can all be found in the Westside neighborhood. The Westside is also home to the Joseph P Riley Baseball Stadium—lovingly referred to as “The Joe,” where the Charleston RiverDogs play—in addition to the police station, Brittlebank Park, and Johnson Hagood Stadium, home of the Citadel Bulldogs. Proponents of outdoor recreation will also be glad to hear that Hampton Park and its 13 acres of green space, walking track, and sports fields is just a few blocks away. Businesses have been increasingly making the move out to the Westside of Charleston in recent years, and residents are now able to enjoy a number of benefits of living in the area. Restaurants like Leon’s Oyster Shop, Little Jack’s Tavern, Harold’s Cabin (co-owned by Bill Murray), and Luke’s Craft Pizza bring a taste of Charleston’s nationally-recognized restaurants to the residents of the Westside.
