Historic District
Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960, the Charleston Historic District is comprised of 81 contributing properties and 700 other properties. South Battery, Broad, East Bay and Ashley, and Church Streets along with several cobblestone alleys, bound the district. Within these boundaries, the district is divided into three distinct sections. The “Upper King” section is located above Calhoun Street, while the “King Street” section is from Calhoun to Market Street. The third section, Lower King Street, spans from Market to Broad Street. Within its three sections, the Charleston Historic District offers many opportunities for entertainment, which can be found in the form of numerous boutiques, curated art galleries, and antique shops.
